From the Administration Team
The Principal – Mr Will Curthoys

Good afternoon all,
As we end Semester One, I want to share with you some wonderful things about our school. This includes not only the way we teach and support our students but also the extra curricula opportunities that our community has. This ranges from sport to cultural activities, race cars and all the way to the agricultural and Show Team. This range of opportunities does not occur in any other school in our region.
Last week on our Whole School assembly I shared with our students that if you want to solve your issues with physical violence then you need to find another school. This message could not be clearer. As Principal I ask for your support to speak with your young people about alternative ways to solve conflict. It is never ok to solve conflict with violence and we must all work together to rid our community of physical violence.
I hope you all have a wonderful holiday break and I really look forward to everyone returning for Semester Two.
Deputy Principal – Mr Dan Finn

Dear Parents and Carers,
As we near the end of another fulfilling term, we're thrilled to highlight the strides your child has taken in their academic journey this semester. The upcoming report card underscores their dedication, diligence, and the joint efforts of home and school.
Contained within the report card are assessments of your child's Achievement Level, Effort, and Behaviour. It offers a comprehensive snapshot of their academic growth, commitment to learning, and conduct within our school community.
We urge you to take the time to review the report card with your child. Celebrate their successes and engage in constructive conversations about areas they may wish to further explore and develop. These conversations cultivate a growth mindset, empowering students to set and pursue their goals.
It's important to acknowledge that each child progresses uniquely, and their journey is distinct. Beyond grades, what truly matters is the dedication and perseverance students exhibit in their learning.
You are invited to attend Warwick State High School and meet with your child’s teachers in our final Parent Teacher Interviews for 2025.
When: 28 July 2025
Where: Warwick State High School U Block, entry via Victoria Street gate.
Interviews will commence from 3:30pm and finish at 5:45pm
Interview bookings open 18 July 2025 at 9:00am and can be made through SOBS by clicking here. Bookings will close on 25 July 2025 at 2:00pm. Should you be unable to complete your bookings please contact the school on 4666 9222 with your booking preferences.

Musical “Disco Inferno”
I could not be any prouder of our Warwick State High School students that were involved in the “Disco Inferno” Musical held May 5,6 and 7. They were fabulous, they have grown and developed self-confidence and teamwork.
But I am so grateful to our dedicated and talented staff – for without them none of this is possible.
Jen Rogers – First time director – aced it – wonderful to see you in your element.
Ian Follet – not sure how you do it but the improvement that you gain from the students singing is outstanding let alone teaching the band members all those new pieces - extraordinary job again and again– musical number 23 – getting better every year.
Leisa Ford – the jack of all trades – sincere thank you Lesia for being so adaptable.
Kylie Wright – I just don’t know how you got the whole cast to learn and perform so many dances – great chorograph.
Maegan Campbell –What an organisational maestro! And smiles while she does it.
Tracey Pope – great wok in our terrific space TPAC.
Deb Follett – Not only did Deb produce a comprehensive program with photos of every member of the cast and crews – she also found time to guide costume selection and check each piece of costume – amazing Deb – thankyou.
Brian Amedee, Leisa Ford, Brad Hutchinson, bringing the stage to life with sound and lighting – and how incredible are the projections – really adding to the show.
Kisty Bajic and Bronwyn Crane – thankyou – While we are all sitting enjoying the show you are making sure that the students are primed and don’t miss their cue.
Leanne Waples – great job with the ushers each night – you pulled together a team who got the job done very efficiently.
But not only is it the staff directly involved but also the staff who made the effort to attend and support and cheer on the students. And not to forget the teachers who covered classes and those who worked in the canteen. Also, the staff who made sets and props.
My sincere thanks to Kaige and Rob for the chair setup and the ladies in the main office who took phone call after phone call, sent text messages and emails and to Paula who is now a Trybooking expert – thankyou.

Hi Warwick High Day
On Tuesday June 3, we welcomed students from Murray’s Bridge State School, Yangan State School, Warwick West State School, Glennie Heights State School, Central State School and Warwick East State School for our ‘Hi, Warwick High Day’. Students enjoyed a sausage sizzle lunch thanks to our amazing Wellbeing team, took part in fun rotational activities, and were treated to a special matinee performance of Disco Inferno. They also had a blast playing Would You Rather: Warwick SHS Edition with some of our fantastic Year 7 students. What a brilliant way to kick off their high school transition journey!

Small Schools
We recently welcomed fifteen Year 6 students from our surrounding “Small Schools” to experience a day at Warwick High. This gives these students an extra opportunity to adjust to being at a bigger school while also forming bonds with other small school students. The students participated in a jam-packed day of activities which included:
- tour of the school
- a visit to Mrs Williams in the library
- making pizza and shared it with key Warwick High School Staff
- a visit to the Ag block and met our Show animals,
- playing games in the hall with current Year 7 Students
- and participated in a STEM challenge.
Just a small taste of all of the opportunities available at Warwick State High! Mrs Rogers would like to commend all students on their excellent participation and effort. We can’t wait to welcome you to our school again very soon!

Positive School Culture
Positive School Culture is the backbone of our school. Today we recognised 350 students who received points for showing Respect, Relationships and Responsibility for the past three weeks.
I would like to thank parents for their support in continuing to make Warwick High the best school.
Thanks to the Wellbeing Team and Year Level Co-ordinators and special guest from the Warwick Police for their assistance in the pancake cook-up.

Deputy Principal – Mr Daryl Thompson

Free internet for students
The Australian Government has established the School Student Broadband Initiative External link (SSBI) to provide free home internet until 30 June 2028 for up to 30,000 unconnected families across Australia with school aged students. The National Referral Centre (NRC) has been established to allow families to self-nominate for the SSBI and can also provide families assistance with nomination details and contacting and arranging a service provider if required.
To be eligible for the SSBI, a family must:
- have a child living at home that is enrolled in a Queensland school (Prep to Year 12)
- have no active broadband service over the NBN network—having a mobile internet service does not affect eligibility
- live in a premises that can access a standard NBN service
- not have had an active NBN connection during the previous 14 days
- have their suitability determined via an assessment conducted by the NRC.
To apply, families can directly contact the NRC or be referred by a participating nominating organisation. Nominations will remain open until the 30,000 national cap is reached.
How to apply.
Families should be encouraged to contact the NRC on 1800 954 610 (Monday to Friday, 10am–6pm AEDT). Call-back and webchat functions are also available via the NRC website. The NRC team will assess a family’s eligibility by checking their residential address and asking some questions to determine if they meet the government’s eligibility criteria.
If eligible, families will be issued a voucher which can be redeemed at any of the participating SSBI retail service providers. The NRC will also be available to assist with contacting a family’s SSBI internet service provider of choice or providing follow-up support.

Head of Department - Mr Ian Follett

It has been a very busy and exciting second half of Term 2 for the students who participate in events within the Arts faculty.
‘DISCO INFERNO’
Warwick State High School Music production of 2025
Unquestionably, the highlight so far of the 2025 year was the Warwick State High School musical production of ‘DISCO INFERNO’. Not only was it a great experience for the students involved, it was also a learning experience for the whole school. With the production completed, it’s now time to look back on what was achieved.
The exciting thing about a school musical is that it is a true representation of the entire student body. Approximately 80 students were involved in this year’s production across all levels, from Year 7 to 12. Students who have a history of performing through studying Drama or Music, those that have never stepped in front of the stage lights, Band musicians, Chorus groups, Leads, Dancers, Back Stage Crew, Sound and Lighting teams, all worked together to deliver a vision of excellence for themselves, the audience, and for the school community. Ultimately, students involved contributed enormously, had fun, and discovered something positive about themselves.
School musicals do not just happen!!! A great deal of time, management, sacrifice and team effort is required to make it work. There were many times throughout the production period when some students (and teachers) faces displayed the, ‘What have I let myself in for!’ look, as they dealt with late afternoons after school, lunchtime rehearsals, lost weekends and public holidays - juggling work, school, sport, other activities, social and home lives. The students and teachers worked incredibly hard to create an awesome show and thanks must be given to them for their commitment from the first rehearsal to the final performance.
The 2025 Warwick State High School musical was a polished and professional success in many ways. Not only did it demonstrate to the community of Warwick and the surrounding district, the enormous amount of talent in the school, many students undertook challenges, set and realised personal goals, and, through their participation and commitment, discovered the values of pride and excellence.
This was also the very first show that we performed in our very own Performing Arts Centre (TPAC). We are privileged and grateful to have this resource. Rehearsing and designing in our own space made the task of weaving things together as a show somewhat smoother.
Warwick State High School ‘School Musical’ productions promote teamwork, inclusion, leadership skills, self-confidence and Positive School Culture, and are a vital part of the school’s extra-curricular program. Thank you to all students, parents, staff and community members who supported this year’s production. We are all extremely proud of our students amazing abilities.

Queensland Chamber Orchestra Performance
Warwick State High School Instrumental Music students were very fortunate to host a visit from the Queensland Chamber Orchestra ‘Camerata’ on June 11, as part of their recent tour of regional Queensland.
Seventeen musicians from Camerata – Queensland’s Chamber Orchestra gave an interactive and educational performance that students thoroughly enjoyed! Students learnt how a chamber orchestra works and what sound each instrument makes, how Camerata plays music together without a conductor and what gives life to the music.
From new music to old classics, students got to spend an hour with Camerata experiencing a unique chamber orchestra performance. We very rarely get an opportunity to hear an ensemble performance from professional String Musicians and ‘Camerata’ are the premier Queensland group, so there are none better. Warwick State High School students were also joined in the audience by visiting musicians form Stanthorpe State High School, Warwick East and Warwick Central State Schools.

Instrumental Music Mid-Year Concert
The Instrumental Music mid-year concert was held on Wednesday evening June 18 at 7.00pm in The Performing Arts Centre (TPAC). The Concert is one of the major events for this term and all four ensemble groups performed. This was an excellent chance for parents and friends to see the results of the hard work that the instrumental music students have been doing in rehearsals since the beginning of the year.

Celebrating Success – End of Semester 1 Update
As Semester 1 comes to a close, we want to take a moment to acknowledge the hard work, focus, and determination shown by students across the English, Humanities, and Languages classrooms. It has been a busy and rewarding term, with students rising to the challenge of assessment and demonstrating growth in their knowledge, skills, and confidence.
English – Strong Voices, Thoughtful Writing
Students across all year levels have worked hard to develop their ability to communicate with clarity, creativity, and purpose. From analytical essays to imaginative responses and oral presentations, we’ve seen thoughtful engagement with texts and consistent improvement in written and spoken expression. Well done to all students on their efforts and achievements.
Humanities – Critical Thinkers and Informed Citizens
In Humanities, students have explored a wide range of topics across History, Geography, Legal Studies, Economics and Business, Tourism, and Social and Community Studies. Their ability to think critically, analyse sources, and connect classroom learning to real-world issues has been impressive. These are important skills not just for school, but for life beyond the classroom.
Languages – Growing in Confidence
Our Japanese students have continued to develop their vocabulary, comprehension, and communication skills, showing increasing confidence in both written and spoken tasks. It’s been encouraging to see students embrace the challenge of learning a new language and show persistence in their progress.
Congratulations
We congratulate all students on a successful Semester 1 and thank families for your ongoing support. The effort and commitment displayed across our faculties is something to be proud of, and we look forward to building on this momentum in Semester 2.
Enjoy a well-earned break, and we’ll see you next term!
Debating
On May 26, the Year 9 debating team travelled to Stanthorpe to compete in the Border District Eisteddfod. After a quick play in the park to get rid of some nervous energy, the girls competed in an unseen topic round, arguing against the Harry Potter quote, “Never trust something that can think for itself, if you can’t see where it keeps its brain.” The debate brought up some interesting points both for and against the use of AI, with the Warwick High team proving that the use of AI does have some important applications, and so therefore, cannot ‘never be trusted.’
The Year 9 team of Alyssa Blanch, Lauren Strom, Rose Kerslake and Piper Hunter not only won the Year 9 debate, but received the trophy for the highest scoring team across the Year 8 and 9 Debating Competition. Their second speaker Lauren Strom also received the prize for the highest scoring individual speaker across the Year 8 and 9 competitions as well.
This brings the 2025 debating season to a close with the eisteddfod being the last debate. The girls have created excellent speeches and debates across the season and have done a fantastic job. Well done girls!

Simultaneous Storytime Success with Truck Cat
As part of our commitment to promoting a love of reading, our whole school came together on Tuesday May 27 for National Simultaneous Storytime. This year’s featured book was the delightful Truck Cat by Deborah Frenkel, brought to life in our assembly by the wonderful storytelling of Mr Nathan Rogers.
Students from Year 7 to Year 12 were captivated as Mr Rogers shared the heart-warming tale, which follows a cat who finds a new life on the road in a big, rumbling truck. The story sparked joy, laughter and curiosity—reminding us all of the power of books to connect us and spark the imagination.
Thank you to all staff and students for embracing the event, and a special thank you to Mr Rogers for leading the storytelling with such enthusiasm and flair!

Technology News
Head of Department – Mr Bradley Hutchinson

It’s been a productive and exciting Term 2 in the Technologies Faculty at Warwick State High School!
Our Year 10 students have been busy gaining hands-on experience across all areas. In Manual Arts, they’ve had their first go on the lathe and crafted their own BBQ plates in metalwork. Over in Home Economics, students have designed and sewn their own hoodies, combining creativity with practical sewing skills.
Meanwhile, Year 11 and 12 students are hard at work finalising their major projects. Whether it’s woodwork, metalwork, cooking, or textiles, the senior students are showcasing strong technical skills and attention to detail. Parents and caregivers can expect to see many of these fantastic projects heading home soon.
We’re incredibly proud of the effort students have put into their work this term and look forward to more great results in the second half of the year.
Mathematics and Science News
Head of Department – Mr Brian Amedee

Semester 1 of 2025 has been a great six months for Mathematics and Science at Warwick State High School.
Our teachers put in huge effort to finalise assessments, guide revision sessions and keep every learner on track. Their hard work set the tone for a busy, successful term.
Off campus, Darren Shuptrine and Angela Urquhart led a keen team to the Toowoomba Science and Engineering Challenge and brought home 2nd place—proof that good planning and teamwork pay off, and that we have a talented group of students at Warwick State High School.
Closer to home, Anneke Lee and our STEM student leaders ran hands-on sessions for Year 6 visitors from our partner primary schools. These activities helped future Year 7s feel welcome and excited about science before they even start.
The Agriculture department also shone. Jennie Spenceley, Amanda Coy and Lex Brackin guided students through a full run of shows, topping it off as Champion School at the Warwick Show. They then took a group to St George for an immersion camp. Lots of early-mornings, big-drives and overnight commitments that gave students real experience of life on the land. These amazing opportunities don’t occur without our fantastic staff at Warwick State High School.
From lab benches to cattle yards, every staff member and student has played a part in these wins.
Thank you for your energy, teamwork and care. Let’s keep the momentum rolling into Semester 2.

Over the term, our Certificate II in Sports Coaching students have been working closely with Year 5 and 6 students from East State School and Central State School to prepare them for the Annual Primary Broncos Cup netball and soccer carnivals held on June 6 2025.
Under the guidance of Mr Rowling and Mr Tucker, our students showed exceptional commitment and enthusiasm, developing strong relationships with their teams both on and off the field. Their coaching helped the younger students grow in confidence and skill, enabling them to compete with great spirit and determination on carnival day.
Warwick State High School was proud to be part of this exciting event, where our student coaches successfully put their skills into action, demonstrating leadership, teamwork, and community spirit.

Nationally Consistent Collection of Data on School Students with Disability (NCCD)
Every year, all schools in Australia participate in the Nationally Consistent Collection of Data on School Students with Disability (NCCD). The NCCD process requires schools to identify information already available in the school about supports provided to students with disability. These relate to legislative requirements under the Disability Discrimination Act 1992 and the Disability Standards for Education 2005, in line with the NCCD guidelines (2019).
Information provided about students to the Australian Government for the NCCD includes:
- year of schooling
- category of disability: physical, cognitive, sensory or social/emotional
- level of adjustment provided: support provided within quality differentiated teaching practice, supplementary, substantial or extensive.
This information assists schools to:
- formally recognise the supports and adjustments provided to students with disability in schools
- consider how they can strengthen the support of students with disability in schools
- develop shared practices so that they can review their learning programs in order to improve educational outcomes for students with disability.
The NCCD provides state and federal governments with the information they need to plan more broadly for the support of students with disability.
The NCCD will have no direct impact on your child and your child will not be involved in any testing process. The school will provide data to the Australian Government in such a way that no individual student will be able to be identified – the privacy and confidentiality of all students is ensured. All information is protected by privacy laws that regulate the collection, storage and disclosure of personal information. To find out more about these matters, please refer to the Australian Government’s Privacy Policy (https://www.education.gov.au/privacy-policy).
Further information about the NCCD can be found on the NCCD Portal (https://www.nccd.edu.au).
If you have any questions about the NCCD, please contact the school.
